New Student Orientation

Get to know New Student Orientation!

Welcome to Â鶹ÊÓƵ!

Here at Â鶹ÊÓƵ, we are changemakers. We are all about building connections, strengthening community, and creating a better future. On campus or off, DC or abroad, we rise to the challenges of our times—and we do it together.

The first step in being a student at Â鶹ÊÓƵ is actively participating in your transition to the university. This period of transition is an exciting time but comes with a lot of change. To help you navigate that change, we’ve organized it in three main areas:

1. Your New Student Checklist
2. Course Scheduling
3. New Student Orientation (NSO)

We’ve broken down the steps in more detail below, but here are some helpful tips for you as you prepare for your transition to American:

  • Once you create your Â鶹ÊÓƵ student account using your Â鶹ÊÓƵID (located in your admissions letter), you will be able to view your personalized checklist via your student portal to help you keep track of your progress
  • Starting at the beginning of summer, you will receive weekly email newsletters to your Â鶹ÊÓƵ email address. These newsletters will remind you of upcoming dates and deadlines on your checklist, as well as supplement the checklist with additional information and opportunities for engagement
  • NSO registration opens mid-summer; registration is a requirement of participating in NSO. You will receive an email with further instructions once registration opens

International Students

In addition to NSO, all new international students must participate in International Student Orientation. This year, International Student Orientation will be held on Monday, August 18, 2025.

This orientation covers important immigration, employment, and cross-cultural sessions, as well as academic information specifically of interest to all international students beginning at Â鶹ÊÓƵ. International Student Orientation is hosted by International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS). Learn more about what to expect on ISSS's page:
